El Club Nacional de Football nació en el año 2009 en Santa Teresa de Cóbano, Puntarenas, Costa Rica.
Un pintoresco pueblo costero, cosmopolita y apasionado, que reúne a personas de todo el mundo,
unidas por el surf, la naturaleza... y el fútbol.
En aquel entonces, al igual que en muchas partes del país, la diversidad cultural dio origen a un
equipo llamado “Inter” (por “Internacional”), formado por jugadores de distintas nacionalidades que
compartían una misma pasión por el juego.
Independientemente de su origen, todos vivían el fútbol
con intensidad: entrega en la cancha, discusiones entre compañeros, abrazos tras el pitazo final, y
sobre todo, un amor incondicional por la pelota.
Fue en ese entorno donde comenzó a gestarse una inquietud: crear un equipo que representara algo más.
No solo una bandera, sino una identidad.
Porque si bien todos compartían el idioma universal
del
fútbol, había algo en el estilo costarricense que merecía su propio lugar: esa mezcla de pasión con
respeto, intensidad con alegría, ese “Pura Vida” que se siente incluso en una mejenga.
Así, en 2009, nace el Club Nacional de Football.
Un nombre que evoca pertenencia, unión,
identidad.
En los años siguientes, ya instalado en San José, comprendí que para dar el siguiente paso era
necesario profesionalizar el sueño.
Pero contar con entrenadores capacitados requería recursos
económicos que el proyecto aún no tenía.
Por eso, en 2014 tomé la decisión de formarme como
entrenador en la Federación Costarricense de Fútbol (FEDEFUT), y tras años de estudio, obtuve la
Licencia A en 2017.
Con el título en mano, verifiqué que el nombre Club Nacional de Football estaba libre en el Registro
Nacional, y que el dominio clubnacionaldefootball.com también estaba disponible.
Soñaba con
formalizar la asociación deportiva.
Sin embargo, no encontré los apoyos financieros necesarios y
el
proyecto entró en pausa cuando acepté una oportunidad como asistente en un club de Segunda División.
Sabía que la experiencia valía más que la prisa.
Esa experiencia confirmó mi convicción: el fútbol es una herramienta de transformación.
Pero
también
mostró que para atraer aliados era necesario dominar la gestión institucional.
Por eso, en 2020,
con
la pandemia como telón de fondo, decidí pausar nuevamente... para prepararme aún más.
La pandemia también reveló algo esencial: el fútbol es salud emocional.
Es comunidad.
Es
vida.
Por eso, con más fuerza, en 2021 volví a revisar el dominio y seguía libre.
Esta vez no dudé: lo registré.
El Club Nacional de Football había nacido para el mundo.
Puede parecer un paso insignificante dentro del sueño que había comenzado en 2009,
pero tener un nombre propio en internet era algo real, tangible,
una identidad con presencia global que convertía la visión en algo vivo.
Al intentar inscribir la asociación, surgió un nuevo obstáculo:
se requería un número mínimo de personas para formalizarla.
Sin contar aún con estructura ni experiencia organizativa, decidí enfocarme en aprender de los
mejores.
Para prepararme mejor para este club, que ya era una realidad, aunque por ahora, virtual.
En 2023, comencé el proceso para obtener la Licencia PRO de CONMEBOL,
formándome en la escuela de entrenadores más prestigiosa de Argentina,
rodeado de grandes referentes del fútbol argentino.
Porque los sueños, además de pasión, necesitan preparación.
Ese mismo año, en la materia de Gestión Deportiva, por primera vez el club dejó de ser solo una idea.
Tuve que describirlo con tanto detalle —estructura, valores, proyección— que lo viví.
Y ese
trabajo
se convirtió en una maqueta viva de lo que el Club Nacional puede ser.

Hoy, en 2025, sigo formándome, con oportunidades de dirigir fuera del país.
Pero entiendo que aún
no
es el momento.
El proyecto entra en pausa una vez más… una pausa diferente.
Porque hoy, el
Club
Nacional de Football de Costa Rica existe.
Tiene nombre, historia, visión y propósito.
Y
busca sumar
personas que compartan esta filosofía: formar jugadores, sí, pero sobre todo formar seres humanos.
Ser una institución con alma.
Han pasado 16 años desde su nacimiento.
Con la ayuda de Dios, muy pronto, dará sus primeros pasos
en
alguna liga de nuestro país.
Club Nacional de Football was born in 2009 in Santa Teresa de Cóbano, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. A picturesque, cosmopolitan and passionate coastal town that brings together people from all over the world, united by surfing, nature... and football.
At that time, as in many parts of the country, cultural diversity gave rise to a team called “Inter” (for “International”), formed by players of different nationalities who shared the same passion for the game. Regardless of their origin, they all lived football intensely: effort on the pitch, arguments among teammates, hugs after the final whistle, and above all, unconditional love for the game.
In that environment, a new idea began to take shape: to create a team that stood for something more. Not just a flag, but an identity. Because while everyone shared the universal language of football, there was something unique about the Costa Rican style that deserved its own space: a blend of passion with respect, intensity with joy, that unmistakable “Pura Vida” spirit that you feel even in a casual pick-up game.
Thus, in 2009, Club Nacional de Football was born. A name that evokes belonging, unity, identity.
In the following years, already living in San José, I realized that to move forward, I needed to professionalize the dream. But hiring qualified coaches required economic resources the project didn't have yet. So in 2014, I began training as a coach at the Costa Rican Football Federation (FEDEFUT), and after years of study, I obtained my A License in 2017.
With the title in hand, I checked that the name Club Nacional de Football was available in the National Registry, and that the domain clubnacionaldefootball.com was also available. I dreamed of formalizing the sports association. However, I didn’t find the necessary financial support and the project was put on hold when I accepted an offer to be an assistant coach in a Second Division club. I knew experience was worth more than haste.
That experience reaffirmed my belief: football is a tool for transformation. But it also showed me that to attract partners, I had to master institutional management. So in 2020, with the pandemic as a backdrop, I decided to pause again... to better prepare.
The pandemic also revealed something essential: football is emotional health. It's community. It's life.
So, with renewed strength, in 2021 I checked the domain again—and it was still available.
This time, I didn’t hesitate: I registered it.
Club Nacional de Football had been born for the world.
It may seem like a small step in the dream that began in 2009,
but having our own name online made it real, tangible—
a global identity that turned the vision into something alive.
When I tried to register the association, a new challenge arose:
a minimum number of people was required to formalize it.
Without structure or organizational experience, I decided to learn from the best.
To better prepare myself for this club, which was already a reality—even if, for now, a virtual
one.
In 2023, I began the process of obtaining the CONMEBOL PRO License,
training at the most prestigious coaching academy in Argentina,
surrounded by leading figures in argentine football.
Because dreams require more than passion—they require preparation.
That same year, during the Sports Management course, the club stopped being just an idea for the first time. I had to describe it in such detail—structure, values, projection—that I truly lived it. That final project became a living model of what Club Nacional can be. You can see that work at the bottom of this page or by clicking on the navigation menu.
Today, in 2025, I continue training, with opportunities to coach abroad. But I understand it's not the right moment yet. The project pauses once again... a different kind of pause. Because now, Club Nacional de Football de Costa Rica exists. It has a name, a story, a vision, and a purpose. And it seeks people who share this philosophy: to form players, yes—but above all, to form human beings. To be a club with soul.
Sixteen years have passed since its founding. With God's help, very soon, it will take its first steps in a Costa Rican league.
En el Club Nacional de Football visualizamos la institución con claridad y propósito. Durante
mucho tiempo nos preguntamos por qué tantos clubes del mundo carecen de una identidad clara.
Los hinchas siguen colores, escudos, pero no un estilo de juego que los represente.
Muchos equipos contratan entrenadores con estilos opuestos entre sí, lo que hace que sus
seguidores vean jugar a su equipo con filosofías que no los identifican.
Es como contratar a un arquitecto y pedirle que construya la casa que a él mejor le parezca, sin
importar cómo queremos
vivirla.
No tiene sentido.
Equipos como el FC Barcelona, con su juego elaborado; el Real Madrid, vertical y preciso; o el
Atlético de Madrid, ordenado y combativo, nos inspiran por su identidad definida.
No fichan técnicos para que "jueguen como quieran", sino que les exigen respeto por su historia,
su visión
de juego y su hinchada.
Por eso, desde hace años nos dedicamos a definir el Modelo de Juego del
Club
Nacional de
Football.
Aquí lo compartimos con orgullo:
Nuestro equipo adopta un modelo de juego basado en la posesión.
Utiliza una formación 1-4-3-3 como base.
En nuestra organización ofensiva, buscamos mantener la posesión mediante amplitud, pases precisos
y movimientos constantes.
El portero es clave en esta fase: debe tener buena técnica con los pies y moverse activamente
para ofrecer líneas de pase.
Los laterales se proyectan para generar amplitud y triangular con centrales, portero y medios.
Nuestro número 6 facilita la progresión, conecta líneas y lanza pases en profundidad con
precisión.
Los volantes ofensivos deben moverse constantemente para ocupar espacios libres y facilitar la
toma de decisiones.
Los extremos estiran la defensa y el centrodelantero puede retroceder para
participar en la creación.
Buscamos crear oportunidades con circulación, basculaciones y desmarques que rompan líneas.
En transición defensiva, ejercemos presión inmediata; si no recuperamos, nos replegamos en un
bloque compacto 1-4-4-2 adaptando su altura según el momento del partido.
La transición ofensiva se adapta según la zona de recuperación: si es alta, buscamos atacar directo; si es media o baja, priorizamos la amplitud y la reorganización ofensiva.
La clave del modelo está en la fluidez entre posesión, presión, defensa y ataque, y en el compromiso total de los jugadores con esta visión.
At Club Nacional de Football, we envision the institution with clarity and purpose. For a long time, we’ve questioned why so many clubs around the world lack a clear identity. Fans follow colors and crests, but not a style of play that truly represents them.
Many teams hire coaches with contrasting styles, making their fans watch their beloved team play in ways they don’t connect with. It’s like hiring an architect to build your house and telling them to design whatever they like. It doesn’t make sense.
Clubs like FC Barcelona (elaborate play), Real Madrid (direct and precise), and Atlético de Madrid (order and grit) inspire us through their defined identities. They don’t bring in coaches to “do as they please”—they demand alignment with their history, playing philosophy, and supporters.
That’s why, years ago, we set out to define Club Nacional de Football’s Playing Model. And we proudly share it here:
Our team embraces a possession-based model with a 1-4-3-3 formation as its foundation.
In our attacking organization, we seek to maintain possession through width, accurate passing, and constant movement. The goalkeeper plays a key role: they must be technically sound and mobile to offer passing options.
Full-backs push forward to create width and triangular connections with center-backs, the goalkeeper, and midfielders. Our number 6 facilitates progression, links lines, and delivers deep passes with precision.
Attacking midfielders must move constantly to find free spaces and enable quick decision-making. Wingers stretch the defense, while the central forward can drop back to support build-up play.
We create chances by circulating the ball, shifting the defense, and using off-the-ball movements to break lines. When we lose possession, we press immediately; if that fails, we regroup into a compact 1-4-4-2 block, adjusting its height based on match context.
Our offensive transition adapts to where the ball is won: if recovered high, we attack directly; if elsewhere, we spread out quickly and reorganize our attack through the least pressured player.
The key to our success lies in fluid transitions between possession, pressing, defending, and attacking—and in our players’ full commitment to the model.
